C'est Magnifique !

Wow!!!!, what a great concert in Carcassonne !!!
Definitely one of the best ever concert I've enjoyed in my life. One of those moments when everything is aligned in the same direction: artist, band and audience. Lots of fun !
The site itself is spectacular, inside a fortified city. The breathtaking scenery, the great sound system, an enthusiastic audience, from the very beginning. I saw Roger very happy on stage, and the band having a good time too, Roger and his band joking around quite often. Roger changed his mind on stage before some songs, surprising both his band and audience, haha. In short, unforgettable ....
Due to the proximity, I heard many Spanish people walking the streets in Carcassonne and also in the concert, and also some fans from other parts of Europe.

I back to Carcassonne seven years after the last Roger's concert, in 2008. And that night was unforgettable and, as I wrote in my Chronicle 2008.

That time Roger played only with Aaron, and the two together sounded like an entire band. Well, this time Roger played with the whole band, and sounded like a whole orchestra, haha Terrific !!!!

Roger was playing the hits as usual, and several songs from his solo albums, more than usual: Seven! You can check the attached Set List.
And it could have been more, because he didn't play "London", that he plays often, and "Love is a thousand times" neither, (included in the original plan).
Due to so many post-Supertramp songs, no time enough for other Supertramp songs that we all love, like "Hide in your shell", "Lady" or "A soapbox opera". But we've got a reward: the jewel "If everyone was listening". And also "C'est le Bon", what a wonderful intro, 12-string acoustic sounding the purest Roger's style, Woooooow !!!

And anotoher nice surprise, the beginning of "Only because of you".
But perhaps one of the highlights was also "Had a dream", from his first solo album. Roger on electric guitar! This is a novelty! Everyone in the audience dancing and jumping : o)

Also, a small surprise at the end of "Along Came Mary": the drummer Bryan had prepared a single snare drum next to Aaron (see photo) to perform the last part of the song in the "Scottish march" style, like the album. I was told that on this way, away from the drum mics, they can get the "distant" sound, like the album. Better than the drum kit.

Many jokes and laughs during the concert. For instance Roger eventually changed his mind before starting some songs, changing the Set List, and causing some laughs in the band and audience, haha. Or when Roger was pushing Aaron to say a few words in French, and Aaron felt embarrased because he don't speak french :o). Roger usually push Aaron to say something in Spanish when they are in Spain and South America, since Aaron speaks some Spanish. But French language is another story..... The funny point is that Roger DO speak some French, but he still makes the joke to Aaron, who does not know how to disappear :o) ...... Then Roger himself was helping Aaron, telling him some french words, lol

We all had a great time, standing ovations after every single song, what a magical evening.

Guauuu, que pedazo concierto en Carcassonne !!! Sin duda uno de los que más he disfrutado en mi vida. Uno de esos momentos en que todo se alinea en la misma dirección y hace que artista, banda y público se fundan en una gran alegría colectiva.
El sitio ya de por si espectacular dentro de una ciudad fortificada. El escenario imponente, un gran equipo de sonido, Un publico muy entregado desde el principio, Roger muy contento y feliz en el escenario, la banda pasándoselo en grande con todo ello, bastante humor, cambios de idea de Roger sobre el escenario antes de comenzar algunas canciones, sorprendiendo tanto a su banda como al público, jaja. En fin, inolvidable.... Debido a la cercanía, mucha gente española paseando por Carcassonne y también en el concierto, y también algunos fans venidos de diversas partes de Europa.

He regresado a Carcassone 7 años después del anterior concierto de Roger Hodgson en 2008. Y esa noche ya fué inolvidable, como escribí en mi crónica 2008.

En aquella ocasión Roger tocó solo con Aaron, y entre los dos sonaban como toda una banda. Pues bien, ésta vez estaba con toda la banda y sonaban como toda una orquesta, jaja Buenísimo!!!!

Roger fué interpretando sus éxitos como es habitual, intercalando canciones menos conocidas, y de sus discos en solitario. Esta vez han sido bastantes de sus discos en solitario, siete! si miráis el Set List adjunto.
Y eso que no interpretó "London" que suele hacer ultimamente, ni "Love is a thousand times" que tenía prevista.
Con tantos temas post-Supertramp, han caído ésta vez canciones como "Hide in your shell", "Lady" o "A soapbox opera" que todos adoramos, pero nos compensó con "If everyone was listening", toda una joya. Y también con "C'est le Bon", con ese comienzo tan delicado, la acustica 12 cuerdas sonando al mas puro estilo Roger, guauuuu.

Me encantó también volver a escuchar el principio de "Only because of you", hace mucho tiempo que no se la escuchaba.

Pero quizás uno de los momentos estelares de la noche fué también "Had a dream", el tema que Roger ha recuperado de su primer disco en solitario, y que es el único que interpreta a la guitarra electrica, arropado por la banda. Toda la gente en pie saltando, mucha marcha :o)

También una pequeña sopresa el final de "Along came Mary", donde el batería Bryan tenía preparada una caja de batería suelta junto a Aaron (ver foto) para poder interpretar la ultima parte de la cancion, al estilo de marcha escocesa. Me contaron que de esa forma, alejado de los micros de la batería se conseguía mejor ese sonido "lejano" del disco, más fiel al original por tanto que haciéndolo con la caja del set.

Hubo muchos momentos de humor y risas, como cuando Roger en algún momento cambió de idea antes de comenzar alguna canción, cambiando el repertorio o el orden, y haciendo "sufrir" a la banda, jaja. O como cuando obligó a Aaron a pronunciar algunas palabras en francés, haciendo salir los colores a Aaron. Roger suele hacerlo con Aaron cuando están en España ya que Aaron se defiende algo en español, pero no tiene ni idea de francés ! Lo mejor del caso es que Roger SI que habla algo de francés, pero aún así le hace la broma a Aaron, que no sabe donde meterse...... El propio Roger le iba "chivando" por lo bajini a Aaron lo que tenía que decir, jajaja

Nos lo pasamos todos en grande, las ovaciones fueron muy extensas y con ganas todos de repetir. La semana proxima nos vemos en Peralada (Girona) No os lo perdáis !
