BIG, BIG, BIG SHOW !!!

Musically, Roger with band remind me the old Supertramp tours. I enjoyed a lot !
How wonderful was listening again "A soapbox opera" or "Child of Vision" for instance, performed by the whole band !!!
Now technology, sound system, speakers, microphones, instruments, etc, are better than 70s and 80s !!!
Wow, what a great experience.

The gig was outdoor, in a lovely and warm summer-night, Huge stage with two big video screens.
Since the previous day they perfomed in Caracas, it was a tight agenda for them: short rest after show in Caracas and wake up early in the morning for the flight to Lima. No time to waste.
Also, little problems in Lima with organization didn't allow the soundcheck in time. Doors opened at 8 pm, audience were entering little by little, while the band was doing the soundcheck together with the sound engineer, with lot of discretion, until 9:30 pm. They were setting all microphones and instruments, one by one, comunication with headphones.
And, problems with the piano, that was not a grand piano Roger requested, but a little one, that made more difficult the sound settings. Show was at 10 pm finally.
More than 5000 people in the audience according the organization. Audience was very polite during the show, not warm, in contrast with the warm audience in Quito days ago. Though things changed at the last part of the show, when everybody stand up and clapping and dancing and singing "Dreamer", "School" and "It's raining again".

Show's outline was similar than solo shows, but some nice surprises, like "A soapbox opera" and "The fool's overture", chilling !!!!.
Pretty similar to the Roger shows with orchestra, music reaches ecstasy.

Aaron performed wind sections, as usual: harmonica, saxophones, clarinet, melodica, and back vocals also, fantastic job.
He even played a keyboard in several numbers, like "Child of vision" for instance, performing strings-sound in background.
So, imagine "child of vision" second half: Roger performing Wurlitzer-sound hammer-ryhthm and singing, keyboard player performing the piano-solo, Aaron performing strings-sound and bass player and drummer doing the rhythm section, total experience !!! I wanna DVD of that !!!
The same in "The Fool's overture", incredible, remind me "Night of the Proms" with orchestra.
"Don't leave me now" and "Dreamer" reaches a new vibe with band. You can look for videos on internet (youtube) and know what I mean.

Jesse, bass player, is Bob Siebenberg's son, and member of Supertramp last tour. He was playing with Roger time ago (year 2000 tour, Art on Ice 2004, year 2008 tour) so he's one more in the family, a perfect musician for Roger !
New members, keyboard player and drummer, did a good job too.

Roger was nice and talkative as usual, this boy never change :o)
During his first speech, papers on his hand -translations to spanish-, due to tiredness or other reason, he said he will speak english, cause he guess most of people would understand, and once said that left the papers while smiling....
And the truth, audience understood all speeches and jokes during the show, so language was not a problem really.

In the third number Roger seated in front of the little piano, and said a little comment to the audience, his doubts about piano's sound. Actually, the sound engineer told me after soundcheck they won't use the piano probably. But Roger wanted a try, he played some chords, and said "Well, sounds like a piano", british humour..... and big smile, audience smail too, and he performed the song, and sounded good.

Another surprise during the show was the song "You make me love you", I never saw Roger playing this song before. Roger introduced the song as a number one in some country in Southamerica, and he asked to the audience, but nobody answered. (maybe too shy or maybe they didn't know the song...)
The encore was a big party, as usual. Lots of love from audience to Roger and viceversa.

Tell you the truth, this was a big gig show, powerful sound, good vibes. It was worthwhile cross the water to see Roger and team, enjoy the show and see Machu Picchu, two dreams in the same week !

What a show. Now I wish they play again (Roger and band) for fans in Europe and Northamerica, and would be fantastic an official Tour DVD soon, in order to enjoy at home too !!!

GRANDE, GRANDE, GRANDE EL CONCIERTO !!!

Musicalmente, con esta banda nada que envidiar a las giras de Supertramp.
Que maravilla escuchar temas como "A soapbox opera" o "Child of Vision" p.ej. con toda una banda !!!
Ahora la tecnología de sonido, altavoces, micros, instrumentos, etc, es muy superior a los años 70 y 80 y es una gozada un concierto así.

El concierto fué al aire libre en una agradable noche de verano, en un mega-escenario gigante con dos grandes pantallas de video a los lados.
Como el día anterior habían actuado en Caracas, apenas pudieron dormir y descansar (madrugón para tomar el vuelo a Lima) y llegaron con no mucho tiempo a Lima. Encima problemas con la organización imposibilitó realizar la prueba de sonido por la tarde. Abrieron las puertas a las ocho y mientras entraba el público al recinto la banda realizaba la prueba de sonido con el técnico, muy discretamente, todos los micros e instrumentos uno por uno, y comunicándose por los auriculares.

Además problemas con el piano, que no era un grand piano como habían pedido, sino uno chiquito, y que costó de poner a punto para el sonido. Pero el técnico y la banda se esmeraron, y finalmente todo sonó muy bien.
Terminaron sobre las 9:30 y el concierto comenzó a las 10.

Había bastante público, más de 5000 personas según la organización. A destacar que el público estuvo bastante frío toda la noche, achacable más bien a la buena educación de los peruanos, como contraste con la cálida acogida durante todo el concierto en Quito por ejemplo. Aunque hay que decir que al final el público se destapó y en los últimos temas empezaron a levantarse de los asientos y bailar y corear "Dreamer", "School" e "It's raining again".

El esquema del concierto fué similar a los conciertos de Roger en solitario, aunque con algunas novedades como "A soapbox opera" y "The fool's overture" que me pusieron los pelos de punta interpretadas con banda.
Algo similar a los conciertos con orquesta, ya que la música adquiere más cuerpo y te embarga por completo.

Aaron ha seguido con sus habituales colaboraciones en armónica, instrumentos de viento y voces, trabajo sensacional, ampliado esta vez con un teclado con el que ayudaba en algunos temas, como en "Child of vision" por ejemplo, haciendo los "colchones de violines" del fondo.
Así que imaginaros en este tema con Roger dando caña al ritmo Wurlitzer sin parar y cantando, el teclista haciendo el solo de piano, Aaron con el fondo de violines, y el bajo y la batería como un reloj, la experiencia era total !!! Quiero un DVD de eso !!!

Lo mismo con "The Fool's overture", que pasada, recordaba actuaciones en Night of the Proms con orquesta.
"Don't leave me now" y "Dreamer" también ganan mucho con banda.
Podeis buscar videos por internet (youtube) y os hareis una idea de lo que ha sido esta gira por Sudamerica.

Jesse, el bajo, hijo de Bob Siebenberg de Supertramp, había tocado ya anteriormente con Roger años atrás (gira de año 2000, Art on Ice 2004, gira 2008) así que estaba en su salsa, un músico perfecto para Roger !
Los nuevos componentes, teclista y batería hicieron también un buen trabajo.

Roger estuvo simpático y dicharachero como siempre, este chico no cambia :o)
En su primera presentación, llevaba los papeles para hablar en castellano, pero ya sea por cansancio o por otro motivo dijo que esa noche iba a hablar en inglés, que suponía que le iban a entender, y tiró los papeles con una sonrisa de complicidad.
La verdad es que el publico siguió bien sus comentarios y bromas toda la noche, así que ese no fué mayor problema.

Cuando en el tercer tema se sentó por primera vez en el pequeño piano, hizo un pequeño comentario al público sobre sus dudas de cómo sonaría. De hecho el técnico me comentó durante la prueba que posiblemente no usarían dicho piano. Pero Roger quiso intentarlo, tocó unas notas y dijo "Well, sounds like a piano..." (Bueno, suena como un piano...) con su habitual humor inglés y una sonrisa, también sonrisa del público, y se lanzó a interpretar la canción, que sonó muy bien.

Otra sorpresa de la noche fué el tema "You make me love you", que yo nunca había visto tocar a Roger en directo.
Roger lo presentó con la excusa de que había sido número uno en algún país de Sudamérica, y preguntó al público, pero nadie respondió. (no se si por timidez o porque no la conocían)
Las últimas canciones fueron una fiesta, como siempre, y Roger se ganó el corazón de los peruanos. Se nota que es muy querido por la gente.
Tras el concierto hubo firma de autógrafos para unos cuantos afortunados, como de costumbre.

La verdad que este concierto sonó como los grandes, sonido muy potente y claro, y buenas imágenes en las pantallas de video para apreciar todos los detalles.
Valió la pena cruzar el charco para disfrutar de esto, compartir un rato con Roger y la banda, incluido mi viejo amigo Jesse, y de paso visitar Machu Picchu, que desde pequeño (gracias a Tintin) me hacía mucha ilusión. Dos sueños en la misma semana !

Ahora solo espero que esta banda se vuelva a reunir de nuevo para deleite de fans en Europa y Norteamerica, y que aparezca pronto un DVD de la gira para disfrutarlo en casa !!!
