THE TOUR 2007

31 concerts this year, (and also few private and radio shows) the largest tour so far !
Good vibes, good audiences every show. It's hard to find a disappointed fan after the shows....
Well, I remember in Tenerife a crazy guy was a little bit upset because the noise from the people singing and clapping didn't allows him to listen the show as in the living room of his house..... Well, this is not a Mozart's concert ..... and the happy audience's reaction is part of the party .... It's hard to please everybody.

After few years with just few shows, It seems Roger finally found what he needs: a nice playmate on stage (Aaron), a good sound engineer team who knows the accurate needs of Roger, and the proper people around him managing the tour and taking good care of him, and, of course, nice audiences ready to enjoy together with him.

As in the previous tours, Roger performed several gigs with Orchestra.
Some fans miss a band in the acoustic shows. I could agree but I'd like to point two things:
In the accoustic shows you can realize all the details from the Roger's and Aaron's singing and playing that you can not catch in a live show with a band.
And also, for all of you who never enjoyed a Roger's show with orchestra, I really do recommend you this wonderful experience.
In this times is not too expensive "take a Jumbo" and go to see Roger in a show with Orchestra if you really loves his music. No excuse :o)
I know some of you loves to scream "Who I am...." in the shower, but for sure you will get more fun singing together with Roger and a bunch of crazy and lovely fans :o)
I do recommend to you to attend a Roger's show once in your life. You won't regret !

And, more shows for 2008 ! Happy Xmas !

I knew about the short canadian Roger's tour but I decided at the last minute take a short holidays for attending the shows and visiting Toronto & the Niagara Falls. It was great, I do recommend it.

Three shows were booked in London, Windsor and Kitchener, Ontario, but finally the show of Windsor was cancelled due to some problems of the promoter and the coincidence with the festival of the city, and it was postponed to 12 October 2004. It was an idea of the composer Peter Brennan, fan of Supertramp and Roger Hodgson, who made the arrangements for the orchestra and offered it to Roger, as a tribute, and Roger was glad to find time to do it.

31 piece orchestra, the sound was not loud, but pure classical, nothing to do with the powerful show "Night of the Proms". No drummer, no electric bass nor electric guitar, just classical sound and the keyboard and the wonderful voice of Roger.

90% capacity aprox. in London, less in Kitchener, it was missed some promotion from the organizers. No ad, no posters,.....

The setlist included some old hits from Supertramp times (Logical song, Breakfast in America, Dreamer, Give a little bit, etc... obviously the hits Roger composed for Supertramp when he was the main member in the band) and some unusual songs on the concerts of Roger solo, like "If everyone was listening" and "A soapbox opera", really brillant with the help of the orchestra. In this last one number three choir young kids in english-looking prep school uniform shirt/ties/sweaters come off of stage right to sing the 'all creatures great and small... ' falsetto part ... very sweet touch, like angels. They also stay out to end the song with the 'ahhh,ahhhh' vocal.... It was like the album !! At the end of the song, extremely well received by the audience, Roger said, "Thanks a lot, guys ... Don't steal my show again."

The song I've found the best and powerful arrangements was "Hide un your shell", beautiful.

It was also included a couple of Roger after-Supertramp songs, Lovers in the wind and Only because of you, very emotional.

Roger was playing his keyboard the whole show (his new Korg Triton Pro already debut last May in the Night of the Proms, instead of the Korg Trinity) and he only took his 12 string guitar at the end for the encore, Two of us and Give a little bit.

It was good vibrations between Roger and the audience, relaxed atmosphere, very good welcome. The audience requested more encore for a long while, but Roger said humble, no more songs ready for the show.

Roger was wearing similar clothes to Night of the Proms, long - sleeved puffy sleeved shirt white colour, white pants & white runners & a black & white vest.

The sound and the venue of Kitchener was better, and also the orchestra was more practised and confident.

- Roger performed the song London on the show of London, no comments...
- Also in London it was a surprise........Dougie Thompson (ex-Supertramp, bass player) was in the audience !! When Roger started the song "Dreamer" he said "This is for you Dougie......". After the show Roger cancelled his commitments and spent time together with his old friend, Dougie "scaped" for a while from Chicago, busy music manager )

After the concert in Kitchener Roger met his friends-supporters for a while, more than an hour, most of them did a long trip to see Roger. Some chats, autographs, pictures, etc. It was great meet again my old friends and also new ones. I remember Jamie, Sid, Rob, Anthony from Toronto, Jim from Buffalo, Jester from Virginia, Frank & wife from Florida, Jan & wife from Santa Barbara, Alan from NY, Uwe from Stuttgart, Sebastian from Montreal, Lorna from Vancouver ?, Sarah from London UK, Peggy from Gröningen, ....

Next show this December, night of the Proms in Germany. See you there.

ROGER HODGSON EN CANADA CON ORQUESTA, JULIO 2004

Aprovechando la corta gira canadiense de Roger aproveché para decidir en el último minuto tomarme unas pequeñas vacaciones y visitar además Toronto y las Cataratas del Niagara. Fantástico, lo recomiendo a todos aquellos viajeros.

Estaban anunciados tres shows en las ciudades de London, Windsor y Kitchener, en Ontario, aunque finalmente el show de Windsor fué cancelado por la coincidencia con el festival de la ciudad y se ha aplazado al 12 Octubre 2004. Fué una idea del compositor Peter Brennan que hace tiempo le propuso a Roger hacerle unos arreglos orquestales de temas de Supertramp como simpatizante de su musica, como homenaje, y que ahora Roger encontró un hueco en su agenda para hacerlo.

La Orquesta no era demasiado numerosa ( 31 músicos) y el sonido no era del tipo espectacular de los "Night of the Proms", sino algo más intimo y clásico, volúmen bajo acompañando a Roger de fondo. Una orquesta pura, sin batería, (solo las percusiones tipicas de orquesta) ni bajo electrico o guitarra electrica. Solo la orquesta, el teclado de Roger y su maravillosa voz.

En London hubo un 90% de audiencia y en Kitchener algo menos, se echaba de menos algo de promoción por parte de los organizadores.

Las canciones interpretadas fueron algunos éxitos de Supertramp como Logical song, Breakfast in America, Dreamer, Give a little bit, etc... (los éxitos que Roger compuso durante su paso por Supertramp ) y algunos temas no tan usuales en los conciertos de Roger en solitario como "If everyone was listening" y "A soapbox opera", que con la ayuda de la orquesta ganaban en sonoridad y ambiente. En este último tema aparecieron tres niños cantando a coro las notas angelicales del intermedio del tema, en el tono perfecto del disco, y se quedaron hasta el final del tema con el 'Ah, ah....Ah, ah......' fué curioso.
Cuando acabó la canción, muy ovacionada por la audiencia, Roger les dijo sonriendo: "Muchas gracias chicos, no me volvais a robar mi show ...."

El tema donde encontré los arreglos orquestales más potentes fué "Hide un your shell", con mucha fuerza.

También se incluyeron un par de temas de Roger post-Supertramp, Lovers in the wind y Only because of you, muy emotivos.

Durante todo el concierto Roger estuvo al teclado (su nuevo Korg Triton Pro que ya estrenó en Night of the Proms en Mayo, y que sustituye al Trinity) y solo al final para hacer los bises tomó la guitarra de 12 cuerdas e interpretó, como no, Two of us y Give a little bit.

Hubo una buena conexión entre Roger y la audiencia, ambiente muy relajado y muy buena acogida.
El público coreó y exijió más bises, pero Roger humildemente dijo que no habían preparado nada más, que lo sentía de corazón.

El vestuario era similar al empleado en Night of the Proms, camisa vaporosa de manga larga blanca, chaleco blanco y negro, pantalones y bambas blancas.

El sonido y el local fueron mejores en Kitchener, además la orquesta tocó con más confianza. Un par de curiosidades:

- En London se permitió la licencia de interpretar el tema "London", sobran comentarios...
- También el London se contó con la discreta presencia entre el público del ex-bajista de Supertramp, Dougie Thompson, a quien Roger dedicó el tema "Dreamer". Dijo "Dougie, esta es para ti......". Tras ese concierto Roger anuló todos sus compromisos y le dedicó tiempo a Dougie, que se había escapado de su trabajo de manager en Chicago para ver al viejo amigo.

Two solo shows in the Marriot hotel. October

 Two privates shows in a row the 11th and 12th October for a IT company who developes software for firefighter departments.

Roger carried his harmonium again, for this especial and intimate private shows, just one month after the terrorist attack in the Twin Towers.
Firefighters from several american cities attended the show.
Obviously it was an emotional event, lots of candels on stage, and Roger had a trully connection with the audience.

A really nice show, Roger performed his Korg keyboard, Grand piano, 12 strings guitar (even the second guitar on key G for Along came Mary), the Grand-ma (harmonium), the japanese drum machine ("Lone child" song) and also Andrew was collaborating playing the acordion in "Rosie had everything planned", keyboard in "School" and drums in "Death and a zoo".

During "Know who you are" and "The awakening" (new song) Roger offered to the audience to come to the stage and fire the candles (more than 100 candles)

A selected bunch of die hard fans were invited for that especial event. Jordi and me from Barcelona, Anne from Ireland, Lorna and Jamie from Canada and Jim and Tim from Arizona. Roger said some words about us (the "crazy" guys crossed the Ocean just to meet me :o) and we went to the stage for the chorus in Hide in your shell (we had a rehearsal with Roger before the show) For all us was an unforgettable experience. What a special days: the intimate shows, sharing stage with Roger and also sharing some meals with Roger and team. What a geat gift !

Dos shows en el hotel Marriot. Octubre

Dos shows privados el 11 y 12 de Octubre organizados por una compañía informática especializada en sotware para departamentos de bomberos, en San Diego, California.

Roger transportó su "harmonium" de nuevo, para esta especial ocasión tan intima, justo un mes después del ataque terroristas a las torres gemelas de Nueva York.
Asistieron responsables de bomberos de distintas ciudades americanas.
Obviamente fué un evento my emocional, con el escenario lleno de velas que ayudamos a colocar antes del concierto, y Roger mantuvo una conexión muy directa con la audiencia durante todo el concierto.

Un magnífico show, donde Roger manejó su teclado Korg, un piano de cola, su guitarra de 12 cuerdas (incluso una segunda guitarra afinada en clave G para el tema Along came Mary), el "Grand-ma" (harmonium), el instrumento japonés de percusión (para el tema "Lone child") y también su hijo Andrew colaboró interpretando el acordeón en el tema "Rosie had everything planned", y el teclado en "School" y hasta las percusiones en "Death and a zoo"  !

Durante "Know who you are" y "The awakening" (inedita) Roger ofreció a la audiencia la posibilidad de acercarse al escenario y encender las velas, con unos grandes encendedores provistos para la ocasión (más de 100 velas)

Un grupito selecto de fans fuímos invitados a tal efecto por la organización. Jordi y yo de Barcelona, Anne de Irlanda, Lorna y Jamie de Canada y Jim y Tim de Arizona. Roger nos citó justo antes de comenzar "Hide in your shell" (unos "locos" chicos han cruzado el océano para verme :o) y subimos al escenario para los coros finales de la canción (tuvímos un pequeño ensayo con Roger antes del show) Para todos nosotros fué una experiencia inolvidable. Vaya locura: los shows tan íntimos en una pequeña sala, compartiendo escenario con Roger y también fuera del escenario durante los dos días Vaya un regalo !

Roger Hodgson joined the All star Band as the electric guitar player, and perfoming (lead vocal and keyboard and 12 strings guitar) his own hits

There was a lot of gigs, promos (as the one in the Rockefeller Center, New York, aired on TV) and interviews. A big succes.

What an incredible show with Roger and Bob on stage ! Unfortunatelly the tour was shorter than expected (several shows in France were cancelled) and non official footage from that tour, just some audience recordings....

Shows started with Andrew on drums, then they played some songs (Take the long way home, Breakfast in America, Open the door,....)
When Roger and Norbert play the dramatic intro for "Don't leave me know", a moment of silence before the drums part, then Roger introduce Bob: "Ladies and gentlemans, Bob Siebenberg of Supertramp !! "
Then Bob enter on stage, take a seat on drums (big applause) and they start playing !
After the song Roger said "it's been a long time.... -laughs- seventeen years, all right ? looking at Bob.......- laughs -...seventeen years, when we were twenty !....- lots of laughs-...."

ROGER HODGSON: several countries in Europe and Canada

 
Roger Hodgson appeared in several TV shows during May/June (Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, Milano, Germany, etc) - and Canada too- and he also performed several solo shows (Madrid, Milano, Paris, Malicorne, Amsterdam, etc) alone or with Christian Padovani (Bass player) and Loïc Ponthieu (Drums) and Alan Simon (Harmonica in Take the long way home). Alan was the producer of Open the door album.

Roger also performed in Madrid a solo concert the 31 May (Sala Arena) and Carlos Nuñez accompanied Roger in the numbers "Along Came Mary" and "Time waits for no one" (flutes)

The show in "Circulo de Bellas Artes" in Madrid (with band) was aired on TV, one of the best bootlegs from that time.

Roger performed a couple of nice songs of Alan ("The Elements" and The "will of good")

ROGER HODGSON: around Europe and Canada .

 The first show was in Malaga (Spain), his very first solo show in his life. And two days later in Barcelona.

Coincidence or not, Roger was in Spain (and other countries) just days or weeks after or before Supertramp on tour, 10 years after their previous albums (1987), in both cases ......

It was announced as a press conference, but it was a real 1 hour show for us !!! I didn't believe it !!!
The best moment in my life at that time !!!

Barcelona, 4 Julio 1997

Un gran día para mi !!!
Iba a trabajar en coche como cada mañana, y escucho atónito por la radio que Roger iba a estar esa misma noche en el Fnac de Diagonal presentando su último disco, que , casualmente hacía poco que me lo acababa de comprar. Para mi era un tesoro, pues también participaba en el John Helliwell, el saxo de Supertramp, y tras 10 años sin discos de Supertramp ni Roger eso era demasiado para mi !!!

Allí me presenté esa noche, nervioso como un flan. Nunca había estado cerca de Roger, aunque había podido presenciar las giras de Supertramp en el 79 y en el 83 en Barcelona.

En la sala éramos unos poquitos afortunados, todos locos fans de Supertramp, unas 100 personas. Y cuando Jordi Tardá presentó a Roger y lo tuvimos delante estalló una tremenda ovación.
Le habían preparado un sinte Yamaha. Y tras unas breves palabras comenzó con Take the long way home.
Gran sorpresa pues yo pensaba que era una rueda de prensa ! y resultó ser un concierto íntimo de 1 hora en toda regla !!!

Repasó sus éxitos con Supertramp (Breakfast in America, Logical song, Dreamer, Hide in your shell -increible-, Give a little bit, etc.) y alguno de los temas del nuevo disco como Don't you want to get high ?

Como Roger estaba sentado al teclado sólo las primeras personas podían verle, y tras las primeras notas de Take the long way home y los silbidos de la gente por atrás todos decidimos sentarnos en el suelo al unísono, y cuando Roger
levantó los ojos del teclado en un momento de la canción, se pegó un susto al ver a tanta gente que antes no veía ...... y se puso a reir ..... casi para de tocar la canción !!!

Estuvo muy entusiasmado con nuestra acogida y nos dió las gracias infinidad de veces diciendonos que esa noche éramos su banda y que podíamos irnos con el de gira. (luego con los años he comprobado que suele decir eso en muchos conciertos, jajaja, pero se ve claro que lo dice con el corazón, no como una rutina)

En fín, increíble velada, que disfruté rodeado de gente pero en completa soledad, pues no conocía a nadie.
Fué un momento mágico.
Y lo más increíble estaba aún por llegar. Al acabar la actuación el presentador nos anunció que Roger se quedaría a firmar autógrafos. Evidentemente nadie se movió, hicimos una larga cola, y los más afortunados que iban en parejas o grupos corrieron rápidamente a comprar una cámara de usar y tirar !!! Yo iba solo, así que me quedé sin foto :-(
Afortunadamente gracias a Internet y a los shows de Roger y Logical Group en estos años hemos podido ir reencontrándonos algunas de las personas que estuvimos allí, como Jordi Sabater (el creador de esta web), Juan Carlos, Ferrán (de Logical Group), Josep Caramés, etc, ... y he podido ver y recordar fotos del evento.

Veía desde la cola a Roger charlando y haciéndose fotos con todo el mundo, de manera muy calmada y atenta.
Escuchando a todos con atención y respeto. No me lo podía creer.
Los de delante mío hasta llevaban una guitarra para que la firmara.
Cuando me llegó mi turno casi hacia el final estaba temblando .... mi inglés era muy limitado, y Roger me miró fijamente a los ojos y me dijo algo así como "hey, que tal, qué pasa contigo..." como si nos conociéramos de toda la vida....
eso es lo que sentí en ese momento, haberme reencontrado con un viejo amigo...
Le dije lo que admiraba su musica, lo que me había acompañado toda mi vida en mi habitación, en el coche, en los buenos y malos momentos, y el asentía y comprendía perfectamente. Me preguntó mi nombre y alguna preferencia para
escribir en la dedicatoria (el folleto invitación del evento) que conservo en un lugar visible de mi casa, la única vez que le había pedido un autógrafo a alguien...

Es curioso, yo pensaba que esa sería la única vez en mi vida que podría tener tan cerca a este mito viviente, y, cosas de la vida, en pocos años nos hicimos grandes amigos y ya he perdido la cuenta de las veces que hemos estado juntos, tanto en su casa como en infinidad de conciertos alrededor del mundo.
Es cierto eso de que a veces los sueños se convierten en realidad...

A short tour in California, starting in Santa Cruz, for the recording of "Rites of passage" album. Recording was made on August 2.

The album was released in 1997, ten year after his previous album.

The Promo-tour was cancelled due to the terrible accident Roger suffered at home, his two wrists broken.

A very sad story, his solo career stopped. At this point of his life Roger was meditating hard about wich direction take for his life, after 20 years playing and touring around the world.

He decided stay at home and focusing on his private life and family for a long time.
