Roger Hodgson – Bournemouth Pavilion
By Scene South
SUPERTRAMP legend Roger Hodgson took the long way home to give a little bit more to his legion of adoring fans.
On the road for the first time in 25 years, the man who was the voice of the late 70s supergroup and co-wrote some of their best material, was on fine form and clearly loving performing once again.
He urged the audience to sit back and enjoy the music - join in if you wanted and help with the whistling on the intro to East Does It.
His set covered many of his greatest hits including Breakfast in America, Dreamer and It's Raining Again.
Even his new stuff - normally just an irritation when you want to hear the songs that have a special place in your heart -was well received and helped to show how his musical journey had continued.
Hodgson performed solo, switching effortlessly between keyboards, piano or acoustic guitar, backed occasionally by a saxophonist who sang harmony.
For the encore, he invited three little boys from the audience to join him on stage as he reprised Give a Little Bit.
It was magical.
